Elevation of Mitlung – 921 m | 3021 ft
It is official kick-start of Kanchenjunga Trekking; tie your shoelaces pretty good, as we will not be opening until we reach the accommodation at Mitlung. We bet you don’t have expect downhill trail at starting point of Trek because we are heading to elevation of 5000 m and plus at Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. It is a good surprise that today it is entirely downhill trail to Mitlung. Lower sections of Kanchenjunga consist of fertile valley along with beautiful pastureland and several villages throughout the trail. We cross a small river of Hangdewa and follow riverbank of Tamor, one of the major tributary rivers of river channel in Eastern Nepal. After couple of hours of walk we will make another approximate 400 m descends through muddy trail that leads to Mitlung. You can imagine the trail with elevation difference 1500 m with in short time frame of 5 hours. It is recommended to make a use of walking poles as it can support your body weight on it instead of pressure of knees. Make sure your boots had good enough with some space for your toe and fit perfectly otherwise you might suffer from blisters.
