Day 09: Acclimatization Day in Ghunsa

Elevation of Ghunsa – 3595 m | 11792 ft

 Ghunsa Khola River

As per rule of acute mountain sickness it is recommended spending an acclimatization day after certain time interval when moving toward higher elevation. Sole purpose of acclimatization day or rest day is to prepare and adjust your body for further elevation. Rest day doesn’t mean having a rest instead it is recommended to stay active even during rest day. The best is to hike up to the surrounding ridge and descend for spending a night, which is another rule of preventing high altitude sickness. We will hike up to Lpasan La Monastery passing through lush green forest area. After spending some time on monastery ridgelines we will descend back to Ghunsa and spend lazy afternoon on cozy lodges. Trail from Ghunsa all the way to Kambachen and Lhonak is prone to landslide and passes through off the beaten section of Kanchenjunga North. Before those sections lets spend good time on Ghunsa, you can leave your unnecessary stuffs on Ghunsa that you can collect on the way back. Especially your stuffs for lower section of Kanchenjunga like light clothes and other stuffs apart from heavy clothes like down jacket and thick trousers etc.
